Having said that, it’s always recommended to get scuba certified to give yourself the best, most enjoyable diving experience possible. While you’ll have a great time scuba diving Koh Lipe as a first-time diver, there’s a lot you can miss out on without the extra confidence and diving experience, such as the more challenging cave dives and wrecks.

Koh Lipe doesn’t have any specific laws or regulations with regards to diving. As always, tour operators state that you must be in good physical condition and have some swimming ability. Children must be at least 10 years old to scuba dive with a tour operator.

With that said, it’s always highly recommended to have a dive buddy when you’re out scuba diving in the waters of Koh Lipe, as it is anywhere else. This is particularly the case if you’re out diving without a tour operator or guide. In this situation, it’s also good practice to make use of diver down flags.

Tarutao National Marine Park

Conveniently, Koh Lipe sits right on the border of this national park, with its many beautiful and diverse sites right on its doorstep… or shore. With a rocky backdrop of boulders and pinnacles, the warm, clear blue water is packed with life and vibrant soft coral.

Here you’ll find 3 species of turtle, sperm whales, and around 25% of the world’s tropical fish species inhabiting the water here. Incredible diversity awaits as you’ve options of 20 different sites and 30 islands that make up the Adang Archipelago.

Underwater Rocks

Named after the UK’s famous stone formation, this site features large pinnacles that extend out of the reef to form a similar experience, except underwater! You’ll always dive through a beautiful garden of vibrant soft coral.

As you move down the sloping hard coral into the deeper sections, you’ll be greeted by leopard sharks and eagle rays. A truly unique underwater landscape and varieties of species are here to be discovered.

8 Mile Rock

Underwater Pinnacle

Situated around 8 miles off of Koh Lipe you’ll find this exposed pinnacle resting in the warm waters of the Andaman coast. This vast pinnacle extends from a top of 16m depth to over 50m below the surface.

The rock face attracts schools of fish along with a covering of yellow sun corals. You’ll have the chance to spot whale sharks, trevally, and devil rays among other species as you dive deeper down the formation.

Best Time to go Diving in Koh Lipe

Regardless of the time of year you decide to visit Koh Lipe, you’ll have the opportunity to spot various marine life such as Whale Sharks, Manta Rays, Whales, and Turtles.

What’s more, Koh Lipe truly is a tropical island paradise and features great diving conditions year round with consistent water temperatures hovering at around 81 – 86°F. The crystal clear waters will also treat you to up to 98 feet of visibility.

Diving aside, you may want to avoid the rainy season from October-December. The high season runs from January to April and offers beautiful weather with very little rain. It’s also the lesser crowded of Thailands high season resorts.

If you’re looking at booking an experience through a tour company on Koh Lipe, you’ll find prices between $80-$150. The price includes gear rental so there are no extra fees.

In addition, a PADI Open Water Certification will set you back around $500, if that’s what you’re looking for.
