Before diving in Mauritius, you must complete the mandatory MSDA medical form to disclose your eligibility to dive. You must also be insured for third party bodily damage to others or their equipment, this comes included with completing the MSDA form, which costs 200 MUR.

As always, tour operators state that you must be in good physical condition and have some swimming ability. Children must be at least 10 years old to scuba dive with a tour operator.

With that said, it’s always highly recommended to have a dive buddy when you’re out scuba diving in the waters of the Indian Ocean, as it is anywhere else. This is particularly the case if you’re out diving without a tour operator or guide. In this situation, it’s also good practice to make use of diver down flags.

The Cathedral

The aptly named Cathedral is a hit amongst cave lovers that visit Mauritius. As you’d expect from the name, upon entering you’ll be greeted by fascinating topography, captivating you from start to finish.

St. Jacques

Mauritius Coral

Highly regarded by some as the best dive in Mauritius, this thrilling drift dive is sure to please all divers that make the visit. Starting out in the shallow lagoon around 5m deep, divers will slowly descend down to a final depth of around 30m.

During the drift, divers will get the opportunity to spot reef sharks, turtles, and rays while being carried along by the gentle current. What’s more, you’ll be drifting along a beautifully rich underwater universe of pinnacles and coral walls.

Best Time to go Diving in Mauritius

With a mainly tropical climate, Mauritius experiences hot and humid summers that can sometimes be relieved by the trade winds. On the other hand, winters are generally warm while less humid and fairly dry.

Water temperature in Mauritius is usually at its hottest, around 84°F, between January and April. The coolest being around 75°F between the months of July and October.

The best time to dive the warm, tropical waters of Mauritius is considered to be between November-May, due to the trade winds.
